Take a look at how to use latex as a base

There are two types of latex: plant resin latex and synthetic resin latex. Using water as solvent, the film is elastic and transparent after drying, which is a qualified material for making canvas base. The white latex currently sold in stores is a synthetic resin latex vinyl adhesive. The most suitable white latex for painting material is polyvinyl acetate emulsion, which has high concentration, bright film after drying, high transparency, toughness and no cracking.

The quality of latex is crucial to the canvas base. After the rubber bottom is dry, press it on the back of the canvas with your hand. If there is a cracking sound, the quality of the latex is not good. When purchasing latex, you should open the lid of the box to see its concentration, the higher the concentration, the better, the latex with water is not easy to preserve. If there is a dry latex skin on the edge of the lid, check its transparency and flexibility, and do not use it if it is hard and brittle.
Common ways to use latex as a base are:
(1) If the picture is small, use a scraper to scrape the unwatered latex on the canvas twice. Or brush it with a water-mixed glue solution first, and then scrape the pure latex again after drying.
(2) Apply the first time with thin glue with more water, and after drying, add more glue and less water (to drag the brush on the canvas) apply the second time. Sand the cloth with fine sandpaper to remove any bumps before applying the first coat. Do this four or five times. The glue solution is applied repeatedly to reduce the slack of the canvas. However, you can not use too much glue, as long as you confirm that the cloth holes are all filled. Too much glue can affect the paint on the canvas.
(3) The coarse texture canvas can not be simply scraped glue, must be added in the second brush glue powder or Lide powder, the proportion of water, glue, powder is about the same. Brush the first time with the same proportion of rubber powder liquid. Trim the surface slightly with sandpaper. After comparison, apply once or twice with diluted glue. On coarse texture canvas, medium density canvas or fine texture canvas, you can use the above method to make a white base. When making a white base, professional painters are used to mixing large white powder with titanium dioxide in equal amounts. Because large white powder is easy to absorb the canvas (filling holes), titanium dioxide can improve the brightness.
The tool for applying glue is generally a wide brush, brush up and down or left and right to the edge, do not use too much force. In addition to the brush, the painter often uses a scraper (decoration tool) to scrape the glue. The scraper has two kinds of plastic and metal, and the use of different tools will produce different effects when the adhesive powder is mixed with the base material. The scraped bottom is smoother, and the brush can better reflect the texture of the canvas.
In order to preserve for a long time, it is generally believed that the canvas mounted on the inner frame should be coated with glue. However, after the glue dries, the surrounding canvas will stick to the wood frame, which is not conducive to disassembly, so it is not recommended to brush glue around
